Gushue Moving Arts

the dance works of rebecca gushue and charles gushue

Founded in 2014 Gushue Moving Arts (GMA) supports the artistic endeavors of Charles and Rebecca Gushue. GMA works with dance/movement for stage and film, as well as in interactive events and parties.

The mission of Gushue Moving Arts (GMA) is to create and distribute dance that touches the breadth of human experience; and to, through their work, serve dance universally, locally and personally.

Charles Gushue, Executive Director of Gushue Moving Arts, is a foolishly ambitious dance artist who continues to make choreography because of the rapid retreat of any sense of knowing how it is done. Right now he wants to know how we can, through choreography, understand new ways to be with each other. Time seems important. He always tells his collaborators it is ok to lie about what they remember if they do it convincingly; there fantasy and memory collide. His teaching experience includes college courses in modern dance, ballet, and jazz, as well as improvisation, dance composition, and physical performance making for a variety of levels and ages. His previous work has been presented in Detroit, New York, San Francisco, Baltimore and Massachusetts. His dances are designed to be adaptable, scalable and unforgettable in any setting. Charles serves alongside Rebecca Sproul Gushue as the director of Gushue Moving Arts.

Rebecca Sproul Gushue, Artistic Director of Gushue Moving Arts, is a dance artist, educator and choreographer. Rebecca values her dancers as primary sources in the building of her work; Pulling from their own vast and varied experiences to creatively, kinesthetically, and emotionally bring rich meaning to performance. Her work has been presented at the College at Brockport, the University of Rochester, Goose Route Dance Festival, Green Space, Built On Stilts, Triskelion Arts and the Hoover Dam Collective. She holds an MFA in choreography and performance from the College at Brockport and a BA in dance from Goucher College. Rebecca has taught dance for the Moving Classroom Project, an outreach program for Baltimore public schools, the Studio for the Living Arts, the Centre of Movement, the Moving Company Dance Center, and Strike It Up Artistic Center and is a certified pilates teacher by Stott Pilates and the Movement Salon.
